The Challenge

As a National Historic Site of Canada, the Trent Severn Waterway connects Lake Huron with Lake Ontario. Rich in history and of vital cultural importance, this waterway is home to approximately 35+ species which have been identified as “At Risk”. When Parks Canada staff sought a comprehensive “Species at Risk” communication strategy, they turned to Whatever Solutions & Media for help. The challenge was to inform and educate the general public, cottagers, land owners, boaters, waterway staff and municipal planners regarding positive steps that can be taken to protect these species. Our services included a comprehensive communications package that began with strategy development, and project identity branding. Next was a dynamic CD resource tool as well as an interactive website, and several printed brochures and tabloid newsletters that are being used by three regional action groups, each with a mandate to engage their communities, create awareness and promote stewardship activities.
